Berber Rugs We have been specialized in high quality Berber rugs from Morocco for over 10 years. We have the most beautiful vintage Berber carpets for you in our collection, but also new handmade Berber carpets. Our mission is to offer you the most beautiful and unique Moroccan rugs. The gorgeous rugs are timeless en look beautiful in every style interior. That's why they are so loved all over the world.
Our love goes out to authentic vintage rugs. Vintage rugs have authenticity, they are not made for commerce. In these special rugs you can see the artistic expression, heart and soul of the maker. The rugs were and are often made by Berber women.
We search and select the vintage rugs ourselves. This way we know for sure that the rugs are really vintage and meet our quality requirements. Of course this is also 'one of the best parts of the job'!
Berber Rug for protection Did you know that many of the vintage rugs weren't meant to be just a pretty rug? Many of the rugs were used for protection against the extreme cold in the Atlas Mountains in the evenings and winters. In general, the Moroccan rugs are wonderfully soft and comfy. The rugs are not stiff and easy to fold. This is no coincidence, the rugs were deliberately knotted in such a way that they were flexible and easy to take or move again. In the past, many of the Berber tribes lived a nomadic existence.
A vintage rug or a new one? We love the authentic old rugs. But beautiful new Berber rugs are also made. However, don't be fooled by the sometimes very low prices comparing other newly made Moroccan rugs. There are huge quality differences in today's new rugs. The big difference is in the use of material and the time it takes to make a rug. Very cheap wool is often used and the rugs are made in a very short time. Still by hand, but in combination with the cheap wool and the much too fast manufacturing process, a high-quality low rug is produced.
A new rug that we have made, is made entirely in the traditional way according to old traditions. No accelerated process and absolutely with the best wool. Whether wool is of good quality has to do with the type of sheep and where the sheep graze.
