A rug usually has its main motif woven just off center. In addition to the colours, the pattern of Ait Bou Sbaa carpet has its own story to tell. The shapes around have their ancient symbolism, and it is this combination of colors, symbolism that makes Ait Bou Sbaa clothes so unique.Characteristic of the rugs is that they often have a border of goat hair in a kind of triangle shape.
Sidi Mokhtar is a small town between Essaouira and Marrakech. This is the central place for the Oulad Bou Sbaa tribes.Because the region is a lot warmer, a specific knotting technique is often used, so that most rugs are low pile.
